City of Birmingham working to make public records available online

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -The city of Birmingham is working to make it easier for you to track how they’re spending your money by making all public records available online soon.

It’s all part of an open data policy the city is adopting and they are using software called OpenGov to make it available to you. So basically, you will be able to see what they see at City Hall.

Birmingham is the first city in Alabama to adopt a law to create an online open data portal to increase transparency in Birmingham between city officials and citizens.

“It is going to be the most open transparent format that we have had here in the past,” according to Birmingham Mayor William Bell. Soon, you can view all of it from your computer or phone using OpenGov. Later this summer, they will launch a website database that you will be able to find most information you need about what goes on in City Hall.
