San Diego County Air Pollution Control District, OpenGov Partner on Special District Reporting and Budgeting Software
When the San Diego County (CA) Air Pollution Control District (SDC APCD) changed its governance structure, leaders also realized the need for new special district reporting and budgeting software. That’s when they partnered with OpenGov, the leader in modern cloud ERP software purpose-built for public sector needs.
In early 2021, the SDC APCD broke away from the County to begin operations on its own. A new governance structure, along with recent State legislation requiring budget projections and other financial information be made public, prompted officials to find a budgeting software solution. That solution: OpenGov Budgeting & Planning. Although the APCD still had access to the County’s ERP system, it proved to be too cumbersome to develop needed reports efficiently. In fact, when developing the budget, APCD staff was spending 80% of the time gathering information and 20% analyzing it. Their goal is to reverse those percentages.
OpenGov Budgeting & Planning is expected to significantly reduce the amount of time APCD staff spend preparing the budget thanks to the team’s ability to collaborate, comment on key reports, and track performance. Now, all reporting is centralized in one platform that integrates financial and non-financial data. If a team member changes a single data point, reports automatically update so officials can track performance in real time. The budget and other financials can be published online, keeping the APCD in compliance and helping it build trust with constituents.
