Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services, OpenGov Partner on Permitting, Licensing, and Virtual Inspection Software

The Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services’ (DABS) decision to partner with OpenGov, the leader in modern cloud software for our nation’s government agencies, on permitting, licensing, and inspection software will directly benefit  those who sell and distribute alcoholic beverages throughout the State.

The Utah State Legislature created DABS in 1935, two years after Prohibition ended, to conduct, license, and regulate the sale of alcoholic beverages. Over the past few months, the Department reviewed their options to modernize and digitize statewide permitting, licensing, and inspection services, and chose OpenGov Citizen Services. Breweries, hotels, bar proprietors, restaurant owners, and others who sell and distribute alcohol will enjoy streamlined customer service, thanks to the decision.

Using OpenGov Citizen Services’ drag-and-drop, no-code interface, DABS staff will be able to design forms and workflows, manage inspections, and collect fees online. This will allow them to process applications more efficiently than legacy systems. The fast turn around for applications that do not require board review is just one of the software’s perks for alcohol sellers and distributors. Significantly, current license holders will enjoy an easy-to-use self-service portal, where they can renew their applications online in addition to applying for, submit, and pay for new required permits and licenses. Once submitted, applicants can track their request and message reviewers within the portal. In the future, DABS records will be integrated with statewide GIS to a greater extent than currently possible. GIS data will, in turn, inform the review of new applications for permits and licenses.

The Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services joins more than 1,600 public sector organizations leveraging OpenGov to revolutionize work processes with cloud-based software designed specifically for the needs of government.
