Hesperia unveils online Financial Transparency Portal
HESPERIA — The City Council was introduced to the city’s online Financial Transparency Portal, an interactive reporting tool that allows visitors to explore various financial data.
During Tuesday’s Council meeting, Senior Financial Analyst Casey Brooksher displayed a series of online graphs, charts and statistical information from the portal on the city’s website.
Easy to use tools provide historical financial data from fiscal year 2005/06 to the current budgeted year. It also allows the viewer a rolling multi-year snapshot of revenue and expenditure trends for each available department and fund.
The site also includes a user-friendly tutorial on how to use the site and an explanation of how the city spends and receives money.
On the Expenses page of the portal, a large pie chart reveals that 33.1 percent — about $31 million — of Hesperia’s budget for the current fiscal year is spent on Contractual Services, which is the city’s highest expense category. Coming in second at $24 million is Contractual Services for Public Safety.
The portal reveals revenue sources for the city, including over $28 million in taxes, over $10 million in the grants, about $7 million for water services and over $10 million in service charges.
The portal also shows statistical data on street projects, water sales during the drought, general fund use, trends for public safety contracts and capital improvements projects.
The financial portal can be viewed online at www.hesperiaca.opengov.com.
