The City of Greenwood is the first government to launch an OpenGov platform in Indiana. Greenwood is committed to sustainable budgeting, responsible spending and financial transparency. Under the direction of Mayor Mark W. Myers, the City has partnered with cloud-based OpenGov to provide citizens with an innovative Financial Transparency portal. The portal is designed to bring visibility, openness, and accountability to the City’s operations. The platform may be accessed at https://greenwoodin.opengov.com.
“This portal transforms complex financial data into actionable insight and information, enabling better analysis and understanding of the city’s budget,” States Mayor Myers. “It will allow everyone access to see our finances in a whole new way, and drill down to the raw data if they choose. We are the first municipality in Indiana to utilize this powerful technology, which I believe will set the bar for financial transparency.”
The platform displays the City’s financial information in a user-friendly portal directly accessible on the city’s website. Residents and staff can drill into the current year budget and compare to previous fiscal years through interactive graphs that easily presents revenue and expenses by fund, department and type. For example, visitors to the platform may answer frequently asked questions such as “How is our Parks & Recreation money spent?” or “What is Greenwood’s property tax revenue?” and then share that information directly from the platform via email or on social media.
